Three neccesary skills you need to thrive in Network Marketing.

Last week I went to Long Beach, New York with my three children to pick my mom and niece up.

They are visiting with us for few more weeks and went there to spent few days with my cousin (the daughter of the aunt I talk about in How to Ask for Referrals))

What was supposed to be 4 hours ended being 9, including breaks. I made a terrible mistake and had to take in the consequences.

I never thought I would have to drive through Brooklyn, Queens and other areas that my GPS got me into. Why didn't I get directions from Mapquest in the first place?

The important thing is that we got there and my children impressed me and made proud with their patience and good attitude.

On our way back my cousin's husband gave me directions that would help me avoid traffic.

Of course, I made another mistake and I ended up driving in Chinatown, Manhattan.

I had said before that I would never drive there. Are you kidding me? I don't want to drive in Lima, Peru, where I'm from. Why would I drive in Manhattan?

But I did it.

What does anything have to do with the skills you need to succeed in Network Marketing? Instead of breaking it in multiple posts like I usually do, I've decided I'll give everything here.

Our adventure made me reflect on three important skills we all need to thrive in Network Marketing. I keep thinking that Network Marketing moms already have them.

My goal with this post is to help you realize that we have what it takes to succeed in MLM.

The first one is resilience. Only those who quit, fail. If you decided that you gave everything and it didn't work for you, I respect your decision to quit. But we know that we always have more to give.

To thrive in Network Marketing we have to keep on going, whether we didn't make a sale in a month or if we haven't signed up anyone yet.

On my way to New York I felt like going back home at least once.

But I didn't.

I had a clear goal, I knew where I was going. It took me more than double the time I had planned to get there. But I did.

Even if it takes me double or triple the time and effort to reach my goals, I will.

The second skill to succeed in Network Marketing is to be teachable. And some of the best teachers are our children.

They trusted me to get there and they knew we were going to. They worried and complained just a little. Even my 2 and a half year old found a way to have fun during the last couple of hours when we were stuck in the New York City rush hour.

I can do that too! I can be patient and trust that I have good leaders who are with me along the way to guide me. And I can have fun during the process.

I constantly learn to develop and identify new skills. I have an open mind to learn more techniques and tips from others.

The third skill to thrive in Network Marketing is the ability to take risks.
After driving through Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, especially Chinatown, I felt like I could do anything. It empowered me.

It wasn't in my plans. I took the risk unwillingly, I didn't want to take it in the first place. But I put myself in the situation and I survived.

Sometimes I think too much. I doubt my abilities. I don't want to commit to something that I think I won't do great.

I don't have to do a great job to start with. I just have to start. That's how I wrote my first Special Report. And that's how I will have a new training series.

Don't try. Do. (We all love some Joda wisdom, right?)

So, there you go!, three skills that we need to me successful in Network Marketing. What other abilities do you think we need? Leave a comment about it and let's start a list.

Afraid of Network Marketing? “Network Marketing is not that bad… if you do it right”

It’s always hard to come back to work after a vacation. We spent the Holidays at my In Laws and I’m just recovering and getting back to the swing of things. A new “swing” I should say, with my mom and 4 year old niece (the one who manifested the snow) visiting with us for few months.

What does this have to do with being afraid of Network Marketing? I’m thinking about new beginnings and how we define “normal”. Even though we have a routine and (kind of) a schedule, there is always something coming up. I know that as a mom, you understand what I mean. Things get in the way and devote the supposedly sacred time to work your business is even more of a challenge.

Network Marketing can be time consuming if you want to be successful. If you are afraid of MLM because you are already busy and stressed, you have to know that taking care of a business is NOT a 5 minute a week plan for success. You do have to work and you can learn how to use your time wisely.

More good news is that done right, Network Marketing is a recession-proof home business. During the Holidays we heard a Radio Show where one Hostess was interviewing a Financial Advisor. He said that Network Marketing is a good option to make extra money or to replace your income if you choose the right company and work. He also explained the difference between a pyramid scheme and a trusted business model.

The Show Hostess confessed that she thought that he was going to say “don’t do it!”, “stay away from it!”, “everything is a scam!” She even realized that many of the products she consumes come from Network Marketing. The most exciting part was when she mentioned that she gets her vitamins from my company saying that they were “the best vitamins in the world".

You can be afraid of Network Marketing for many reasons. For me, time is still an issue. That is why I write about it, to let you know that you are not the only one trying to get everything done. But to be successful in MLM we have to keep our priorities right and make time to work on productive activities.

You can be confident that Network Marketing is a trusted business model that can change your life if you keep working. Not only thrives even in the midst of the Recession but it gets the attention of Massive Communication Media like Radio. The Hostess said “Network Marketing is not that bad… if you do it right”. I’d say it is great.

What are (or were) your MLM fears? What are you doing to overcome them? Leave a comment about it and don’t forget to share this post if it helped you.

Stay At Home Mom Working from Home: How to be a successful WAHM Part 2

In the first part we talked about being organized and write down your goals. Other components to being a Successful WAHM are:

3. Set your goals, write them, keep them in sight. This will keep you motivated. There are days when we don’t want to do anything. But we must keep going. I look at my board with thoughts, phrases and dreams and I know where I’m walking towards. Honestly, it was easier to feel frustrated when I used only traditional methods in Network Marketing. Using Online Marketing allows you to be productive without having to check “Zero people contacted today”.

4. Have a mentor. This is crucial. Who can teach you what to do? If you are a Network Marketing Mom then you already have people ready to coach you. But you can also find coaches online, leaders who will be more than happy to help you or have great material for free.

5. Be patient. Usually a business needs few years to take off. You will always learn about people who did it in months or even weeks but do your best not to compare with them. There are many successful WAHMs out there. Learn from them but don’t compare. You can’t have what you envy. Your situation is unique, your frustrations are unique and your abilities and gifts are unique. Be patient with yourself. I know that I can do in one week what other people do in one day. But I’m patient. If I persist I will be victorious. And so do you.

Now it’s your turn. Add to this list. How can we be Successful WAHMs?

Stay At Home Mom Working from Home: How to be a successful WAHM Part 1

Being a Stay At Home Mom is a wonderful and beautiful job. It’s challenging and draining too. Working from home can be the answer to different needs: the need to supplement your income, the need for personal development, the need to express creativity, the need to use personal qualities like teaching, writing or speaking, the need of adult interaction, the need of freedom in the long term, etc.

But I haven’t seen very often that Working from Home answers the need to have a more chaotic schedule. Going from “just” (in quotes because is an already very hard work) Stay At Home Mom to a Work at Home Mom is another wonderful, beautiful, challenging and draining experience. It can be overwhelming especially at the beginning when you are learning how to do it.

Network Marketing is the option for many WAHMs but the tips that I’m sharing here apply for any Mom who wants to be a successful Stay at Home Mom working from home.

This is not the ultimate list. My intention is actually to give a starting list you can add to as you learn more about your Industry, your niche, your product, your strategy for building your business, marketing, etc.

1. Be organized: If you were not organized before, this is the time to be! You are a Work at Home Mom but probably your schedule still goes around your children’s. Maybe you are active in other groups too. Don’t leave your business in the back burner if you want it to work. Even if you have to work during the evenings, give it always a priority in your mind. What works for me is to start my day with house chores. When the house is organized is easier to work.

2. Be focused: Work time is work time. I know, we all have interruptions. It’s frustrating when you are about to type a great blog post and little voices start asking you for whatever-it-is-you-don’t-want-to-know-about. And yes, your husband goes in that group too. Try to find a time slot when you can be the Working from Home Mom you can be. If it’s absolutely impossible to eliminate distractions, then have fun with it. What you can do in 20 minutes will be accomplished in one hour and you know what? You have to be proud you did it!

In the second part I’ll give you 3 more ways to be a Successful WAHM.

Online Marketing Success: Two Tips for Network Marketing Moms

Sometimes we waste time thinking (and even worse, saying) that we don’t know what to do in Online Marketing. Unless you are really starting you do know what to do: post in your blog, build a list, work on personal development, have a good opt in form, reuse content for Newsletters and articles, use Social Media, etc.

There are so many things to do that it can be overwhelming. Add to that endless loads of laundry, the “magic sink” (you know, the one that is always full as much as you empty it), feeding your family, chauffeuring your children , etc.

So my two tips are simple and direct:

1. Have a plan
2. Act upon it

That’s it! I know, it’s not rocket science. It works for almost anything you want to accomplish, too.

Pick few productive actions that you can focus on every day. One thing that you always need in Online Marketing is content. You also need promotion. Those two activities can be divided in multiple tasks like creating a new Squidoo lens, submitting an article to Ezine Articles or other Directory, posting in your blog, Tweet your post or other people’s post, test opt in forms, tweak a landing page, etc.

You don’t need a big plan. A business plan is good because it reminds you of where your business is going. But you also need a daily list of activities. Cross them out as you complete them.

That means, you have to complete them!. Be realistic. As much as I want to work without distractions, sometimes things happen. My daughter wants to run away, my toddler didn’t make it on time to the bathroom, my pre teen tries to help but gets dirty too. Oh, yeah, we have interruptions.

But we keep on going, we keep taking action. Work every day. Don’t allow yourself to end a day without a victory. My victory today, after a long Monday, is to post on my blog. What are you going to do?

Network Marketing Tip: Building the foundation of your business

Few days ago I read an email that let my thinking. It was about the foundation of our businesses.

Any business needs a good foundation, just like buildings do. The taller the building, the deeper the foundation. And the time it takes to build that foundation can be months. Months when you don’t see any of the building because everything is being worked underground!

We always hear comments about laying good foundations for our children. If we don’t give them good support, discipline, boundaries, guidance, it’s very likely that we will end up with disrespectful children. But how long does it take to give them strong roots? Years!

We can’t expect our businesses to grow if we don’t have the patience to build a strong foundation. If we don’t take time to work “underground” (reading, writing, creating leads, working on ourselves, etc) we can’t expect to see a tall building (i.e. a profitable business).

How are you building the foundation of your business?

A thriving Network Marketing business needs a good mentor

In Network Marketing is common to hear that you are in business for yourself but not by yourself. That refers to the network of people you have available to work by your side once you sign up and become a distributor. In includes upline, crossline, even downline and staff in your Company. If you try to do things your own way, without asking for help or guidance, your chances for success are slim.

So, if you want to build a thriving Network Marketing business you are going to look for the right person to be your mentor. Since the success of your business is in your hands, it’s your responsibility to contact him or her first.

A good mentor is willing to be there for you even if he or she is not your sponsor (ideally he’ll be a leader in your upline). She’ll assist you with motivation, answers for your questions, effective methods to build your business, etc. More than anything, she’ll lead by example because she is building her own organization.

If you want to build your business online, your mentor should be ready to help you. But don’t forget that Internet offers the potential to reach to multiple leaders in the Industry whose mission is to help anyone who wants to succeed in Network Marketing. So consider looking online for help from Network Marketers who are building a business online. Soon you’ll be a mentor for your own organization so be ready to learn and share that knowledge.

Top 5 reasons why a plan is basic in a thriving Network Marketing business

So you know you need a plan, right? If still don't have one, don't get overwhelmed. You can find many tips about how to build one with a simple research online, calling your company for information or asking your upline. It doesn't have to be a perfect plan because nobody is giving you grades or taking notes of your performance. It can be as basic as having your main goal and time frame for achieving it.

If want to be successful in Network Marketing, a business plan can do a lot for you. Why? These top 5 reasons may answer that question:

1. It's your road map. It will remind you of where you are going when you have doubts and wonder why in the world you got involved in MLM.

2. It's your guide for daily action. If you don't know what to do today, you can look at your list of productive activities and invest time in those.

3. It's your business' clock. It will show you if you are late or on time with your goals so you know what adjustments to make.

4. It's one physical materialization of your business. Something happens when we write down our thoughts and can read them. It's a way of telling our brains that it's real, it's happening and it's staying.

5. It's a way to share your plans for the future with others. You can show your potential business partners where you are heading and how you are going to get there.

Keep in mind: reading your plan every day doesn't make you money. Doing what it's in there does. A successful Network Marketer is not the one with the most impressive plan but the one who puts it into action and keeps putting one foot in front of the other.

Just for fun: Our plans can change and we have to be ready!

Online Network Marketing Success

Is it possible to have success building a Network Marketing business online? Maybe you were told that the only way to build your organization was talking with family, friends, acquaintances, barely-known people, leads...

Going from hot to cold, everyone could be (or actually was) your prospect. You sorted and looked for those motivated potential partners who would be successful thanks to you. In return, you would be successful too.

Yeah, right.

Now, don't get me wrong. It is a networking business. And yes, we have the chance to offer our incredible opportunity to our loved ones.

After all, we don't want them to despise us in the future (you know, when we are billionaires) because we didn't tell them about it.

The personal interaction is going to be present somehow, at some point. We are moms, that makes us unofficial PhD's in Public Relations.

But what about the "marketing" part? What if it's possible to market your business online and get people coming to you, for real? Even if you are new to Internet and ask your children to explain to you what on earth HTML means, you can create a successful online Network Marketing business.

More and more, there are training systems that teach you the right way to do it.

Look closely and be patient. In the next posts I'll share with you what I found. It does take work, fun work.

The best way to digest everything is in little bites, and that's what I want to give you. Doing something everyday you can accomplish great things. Ready? Set. Go!
